Item: Reenlistment period

Comment: Soldiers who are SSG or below may reenlist for:

(Policy Message 09-02) (1) Initial term Soldiers 3, 4, 5, or 6 years. As an exception, deployed Soldiers are authorized to reenlist for 2 years.

(2) Mid Career Soldiers 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 years.

(3) Career Soldiers with Mid-Career Options (with less than 10 years of AFS on date of discharge) 3, 4, 5, or 6 years

(4) Deployed Initial, Mid-Career, and Career Soldiers with Mid-Career options (less than 10 years of AFS on date of discharge) outside the 24 month reenlistment window.

Item: Prerequisites

Comment: Meet basic eligibility criteria and reenlist in the time frame prescribed in chapter 3 with or without waiver(s) of disqualification(s). Soldiers reenlisting for this option must be serving in a valid position in an MTO&E unit. (Policy Message 09-02) Soldiers assigned to TDA units must have less than 23 months Time on Station (TOS) at time of reenlistment for CONUS based Soldiers or DEROS for OCONUS based Soldiers to qualify for this option. There are no TOS restrictions for Soldiers assigned to MTO&E units. Soldiers assigned to TDA units may not exceed 24 months TOS when adding reenlistment stabilization to current TOS. (RMT Message 09-04) Soldiers within 6 months of ETS or DEROS must request an exception to policy through RRB.

(Policy Message 09-02) Initial Term, Mid-Career and Career Soldiers with Mid-Career options (less than 10 years of AFS on date of discharge):

(1) Serving in a balanced (N/N) or under strength (Y/N) MOS inside the reenlistment window.

(2) Deployed Soldiers, regardless of MOS strength, outside the reenlistment window.

Item: Option Information

Comment:

a. (Policy Message 09-02)

(1) Initial Term Soldiers: Reenlistments 3-6 years guarantees 1 to 12 months stabilization from date of reenlistment for CONUS based Soldiers or 1 to 12 months stabilization from DEROS for OCONUS based Soldiers. As an exception, deployed Soldiers are authorized to reenlist for 2 years and receive 1 to 6 months stabilization stop move end date for CONUS based Soldiers and 1 to 6 months stabilization from DEROS for OCONUS based Soldiers.

(2) Mid-Career Soldiers: Reenlistments for 2-6 years guarantees 1 to 12 months stabilization from date of reenlistment for CONUS based Soldiers or 1 to 12 months stabilization from DEROS for OCONUS based Soldiers.

(3) Career Soldiers (with less than 10 years of AFS on date of discharge) who are eligible to receive mid career options: Reenlistments 3-6 years guarantees 1 to 12 months stabilization from date of reenlistment for CONUS based Soldiers or 1 to 12 months stabilization from DEROS for OCONUS based Soldiers.

b. If the Soldier is placed on temporary duty, to include operational Temporary Change of Station (TCS), away from the stabilized station (during the stabilization period), for a period in excess of 30 consecutive days, the period of stabilization will be increased by the number of days the Soldier was away from the stabilized station, unless the stabilization is waived by the Soldier.

c. If ARMY G1 determines that, to meet the operational needs of the Army, the unit to which the Soldier is assigned must be deployed, relocated, transferred, or reassigned from the parent organization, the Soldier will deploy with the unit and no grounds for broken reenlistment commitment will exist.

d. If the guaranteed station is inactivated and transfer of the Soldier is necessary before completion of the 12 month stabilization period, the Soldier will be given the choice of assignment to any other station in the Major Command to which assigned if a vacancy in PMOS and grade exists. If no vacancy exists, reassignment will be according to the needs of the Army.

e. If the guaranteed station is re-designated, relocated, transferred, or deployed, the Soldier will remain assigned to the station and will be moved as part of the station.

Item: Special processing for overseas commands

Comment:

a. Processing requirements in overseas commands are the same as those within CONUS except as prescribed below.

b. Authority to approve reenlistment for this option, when all or any portion of the guaranteed tour exceeds the normal overseas tour, is the prerogative of the major overseas commander per AR 614-30.

Comment: DA Form 3286, Parts I through IV, for all Soldiers.

(Policy Message 09-02) Part II, Item 2, enter “Guaranteed 1 to 12 months stabilization from Reenlistment date or DEROS.” Part II, Item 3, enter the number of months stabilized and commencement date.
